Vietnam, UK to accelerate their defense cooperation
PANO – In the coming time, Vietnam and the UK should strengthen high-ranking delegation exchanges and accelerate their defense cooperation in training, UN peacekeeping operations, defense industry, and UXO clearance.
The statement was made by Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, member of the Party Central Committee, permanent member of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Minister of National Defense, at the talks with Earl Howe, Minister of State for Defense of the UK, on April 19 at the headquarters of Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense.
During the talks, the two sides highlighted the cooperation between the two defense ministries over the past time and affirmed that defense cooperation is one of the important pillars in the Vietnam-UK strategic partnership. Both sides also discussed measures to accelerate bilateral relations between the two countries and exchanged regional and international issues of mutual concern.
Agreeing with the host’s suggestion, the guest said that the two countries should expand their cooperation in training for military servicemen. Over the past time, the UK has provided English language training for Vietnamese officers and assisted the country in joining UN peacekeeping operations.
On the occasion, the Vietnamese Deputy Defense Minister and the UK Minister of State for Defense signed a Memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation.
