Vietnam’s border guard units extend New Year greetings to Chinese units
PANO – Representatives of units under the Lao Cai provincial Border Guard Command met their peers of the Chinese border guard units yesterday to wish them a Happy New Year.

At the meetings, the two sides agreed to further cooperate in preventing and controlling the COVID-19 pandemic, combating illegal migration, cracking down on smuggling, and regularly exchanging information through hotlines, contributing to ensuring security and order in border areas.
Annually on January 1, border guard units, inter-sectoral agencies, and local authorities of Lao Cai hold a flag-saluting ceremony to welcome the New Year at the Lao Cai International Border Gate and the Kim Thanh International Border Gate No.2 under the Border Post of the Lao Cai International Border Gate.
This year, after the ceremony, the Kim Thanh International Border Gate No.2 welcomed the first arrival and first batch of goods from China to Vietnam. Leaders of the Border Post of the Lao Cai International Border Gate also presented flowers and extended New Year greetings to the first person leaving Vietnam for China and driver of the first container to the neighboring country.

Due to the complicated development of the COVID-19 pandemic, all drivers crossing border gates in Lao Cai province are put in an isolated zone.
