An overview of the meeting
The event was chaired by Senior Lieutenant General Be Xuan Truong, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Defense Minister and Head of the Vietnamese sub-committee, and Vladimir N. Drozhzhov, Deputy Director of the Russian Federal Service for Military Technical Cooperation and Head of the Russian sub-committee.

Present at the meeting was Lieutenant General Pham Hong Huong, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army.

Welcoming the Russian guests, General Truong once again emphasized the considerable support from the former Soviet Union to Vietnam during its national resistance war against foreign invaders. The general held that the Vietnamese Party, State, Army and people always attach importance to strengthening the traditional friendship and cooperation with Russian people and military.

At the meeting, the two sides highly appreciated the development of the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership, as demonstrated by their top state leaders’ official visits to each other in this year, making contributions to boosting the driving force for the bilateral cooperation in various fields.

Both General Truong and Mr. Drozhzhov voiced pleasure at their defense cooperation, including military technical services, in line with the two countries’ comprehensive strategic partnership, adding that they should further foster the defense cooperation in general and military technical sector in particular, in the time to come.

They also reviewed results of their technical military cooperation since the 18th meeting of the Vietnam-Russia Inter-Governmental Committee on Military Technical Cooperation, and then discussed cooperation plans for 2018 and other joint contents under the Vietnam-Russia technical military cooperation agreement in the 2016-2020 period.

Mr. Drozhzhov invited General Truong to visit Russia at a convenient time.

The two officials signed the minutes of the meeting.
