Held at the headquarters of the Lao Ministry of Defense, the defense policy exchange was co-chaired by Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh and his Lao counterpart, Lieutenant General Onsi Sensuk.

During the exchange, the two sides discussed security and political situations in the region and the world and cooperation within the ADMM and ADMM+ mechanisms, reviewed bilateral defense cooperation over the past time, and agreed on measures to boost cooperation in the coming time, which focuses on effectively implementing agreed contents in the signed protocols and annual cooperation plans.

On the afternoon of July 25, the Vietnamese delegation paid courtesy calls on Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisulith and Defense Minister Chansamone Chanyalath.

The Lao PM and Defense Minister highly appreciated the visit of the Vietnamese delegation and hailed the first Vietnam-Laos defense policy exchange and believed that this mechanism will serve as an important channel for the two sides to exchange strategic information so as to reach common perceptions of issues concerning regional security and orientation for bilateral defense cooperation. The Lao leaders stressed that defense cooperation is an important and special pillar in the traditional relations between the two countries, especially between the two Parties, States, militaries and peoples.

Evaluating relations over that past time, PM Thongloun Sisulith and Defense Minister Chansamone Chanyalath suggested that the two sides find new areas of cooperation to substantially and effectively develop bilateral relations. They affirmed that the Lao Government, Defense Ministry and they themselves would continue facilitating more cooperation between the two ministries and armed forces.

For his part, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh extended regards of PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Defense Minister Ngo Xuan Lich to the Lao leaders. He stressed that the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam always highly values the contents agreed by high-ranking leaders and the significance of enhancing the bilateral defense cooperation.

The Vietnamese general proposed that the Government, Ministry of National Defense and leaders of Laos continue to direct relevant units and agencies to implement contents in the signed protocols, annual cooperation plans and agreements between high-ranking leaders and defense ministries of the two countries.
