Maj. Gen. Vu Trung Kien speaks at the event.

According to the plan, the Vietnam Coast Guard will send a delegation led by Senior Colonel Nguyen Trinh Hung, Deputy Director of the Coast Guard Operations and Law Enforcement Department, to participate in the forum in Pattaya, Thailand, from June 24 to 27.

The ACF was established with the goal of “creating a dedicated dialogue mechanism to promote ASEAN’s central role in regional maritime security.” It comes amid ongoing efforts by member states to enhance cooperation and coordination in tackling maritime threats such as illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, human and drug trafficking, and conducting joint patrols in the East Sea (South China Sea). The forum also serves as a platform to address existing differences and strengthen regional cooperation for mutual benefit.

Speaking at the event, General Kien emphasized that the ACF is a significant diplomatic initiative, offering an opportunity for regional nations to engage in transparent and open exchanges, thereby fostering mutual understanding in responding to shared maritime security challenges.

He urged all members of the delegation to fully understand their responsibilities, uphold a strong sense of duty, strictly adhere to the principles of defense diplomacy, maintain appropriate conduct and etiquette, and promote solidarity and mutual support in both professional and daily interactions.
