Deputy Defense Minister General Vinh made the suggestion at his reception for charge d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam Yin Haihong on October 1 at the headquarters of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense.

The Vietnamese senior officer also mentioned the fifth Vietnam-China border defense friendship exchange, which is scheduled to take place in late November this year, high-level visits of the two militaries’ leadership, and the defense policy dialogue at defense ministerial level.

At the meeting, General Vinh congratulated Chinese people on their 69th National Day and confirmed that the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership has been developing strongly and comprehensively with the bilateral defense ties serving as one of the important pillars.

General Vinh emphasized that the cooperation between the two militaries has reaped positive and pragmatic results in different fields, such as delegation exchanges at all-level, joint health checkups activities in the shared border areas, border cooperation, military history and scientific studies, Vietnamese and Chinese language training for military learners, and the UN peacekeeping operation-related experience-sharing.

The host also laid stress on the two sides’ mutual support in multilateral forums, especially in the framework of the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM+). He added that Vietnam would take part in the upcoming ASEAN-China Maritime Exercise at the Chinese Zhanjiang naval base.

General Vinh also recalled the success of the friendly visit to China of a high-ranking delegation of the Vietnam People’s Army, led by Senior Lieutenant General Luong Cuong, Director of the General Department of Politics in July this year, saying that it has actively contributed to reinforcing the relationship between the two Parties, States and militaries.

For her part, the Chinese diplomat thanked the host for a warm reception and agreed with the host’s comments on the fruitful comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership of the two countries in general and on the bilateral defense cooperation in particular over the past time.

She promised to report the host’s suggestions to China’s higher levels at the earliest.
