Present at the event were Deputy Defense Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, who was leading a Vietnamese delegation on a trip to South Sudan, Vietnamese Ambassador to the UN Dang Dinh Quy, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA), Senior Lieutenant General Pham Ngoc Minh, and Head of the Bentiu Field Office Hiroko Hirahara, and UNMISS Medical Chief Officer Iqbal Mohd, among others.

Speaking at the event, Lieutenant Colonel Bui Duc Thanh, Director of the L2FH No.1, recalled the history of the Vietnamese Doctors’ Day and stressed on humane traditions of generations of Vietnamese doctors.

Head of the Bentiu Field Office Hiroko Hirahara thanked the Government and the VPA for sending the hospital to South Sudan. She praised the great efforts and effective contributions made by the hospital staff to the peacekeeping operations in the African country. She appreciated the professionalism and expertise of the Vietnamese doctors and medical workers, stressing that they have become an important part of the Bentiu base.

In turn, UNMISS Chief Medical Officer Ibal Mohd revealed, staff members of the Vietnamese field hospital treated 550 patients with 15 surgery cases during just four months they took over the work from the UK field hospital, which is an impressive figure for a level-2 field hospital at a UN peacekeeping mission.

Addressing the ceremony, General Nguyen Chi Vinh hailed the performance of the Vietnamese field hospital, saying that he is proud that the hospital staff members have proved Vietnam is making positive and effective contributions to safeguarding the world’s peace.

On the occasion, General Vinh and representatives of relevant agencies encouraged and presented gifts to doctors and medical workers of the hospital.  General Vinh, Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy and the guests also planted a memorial tree on the campus of Vietnam’s L2FH No.1.
