MND’s delegation visits Singapore
PANO – A delegation from the Ministry of National Defense, led by its Deputy Minister Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, paid a working visit to Singapore to discuss ASEAN military-defense activities in 2020 with the host and to attend the Singapore Airshow 2020.
The delegation also included Lieutenant General Le Huy Vinh, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army.
At the meeting with the Permanent Secretary at the Singaporean Ministry of Defense Chan Heng Kee and Senior Minister of State for Defense Heng Chee How, General Vinh said that Vietnam has completed preparations for the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) Retreat, which is scheduled from February 18 to 20 in Hanoi. Meanwhile, Vietnam has also attached much importance to ensuring nCoV (newly named Covid-19) prevention.

This year, apart from the ADMM Retreat and ADMM Plus, Vietnam will also organize a ceremony in celebration of the tenth founding anniversary of ADMM Plus in 2020 with the participation of defense ministers of member countries.
General Vinh also invited leaders from the Singaporean Ministry of Defense to attend a conference on women’s participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations and an international defense expo, hosted by Vietnam this year. He also congratulated the Singaporean side on the successful organization of the airshow in the context of the acute respiratory disease caused by Covid-19 is increasingly complicated.

During the visit, Lieutenant General Le Huy Vinh also met with Singaporean Chief of Defense Force Melvyn Ong and conveyed the invitation of the Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang to Melvyn to attend the 17th ASEAN Chiefs of Defense Forces’ Meeting (ACDFM 17) in Vietnam.
The hosts expressed their delight at the working visit of the Vietnamese military delegation, adding that they are looking forward to attending ASEAN-related meetings in Vietnam. The Singaporean side also affirmed that they would support and create favorable conditions for Vietnam to successfully hold military-defense activities in 2020 when Hanoi serves as ASEAN Chair in 2020.
During the working visit, the MND’s delegation also attended the Singapore Airshow 2020 and worked with several units to learn from their experience as Vietnam is expected to host an international defense exhibition for the first time this year.
The Singapore Airshow is one of the biggest defense exhibitions in Asia. It is held biennially, attracting the participation of a large number of defense companies from many countries around the world.
