Deputy Defense Minister receives head of Vietnam’s Delegation to E.U.
PANO - Deputy Minister of National Defense Sr. Lt. Gen. Hoang Xuan Chien received Vietnamese Ambassador to Belgium and Head of Vietnam’s Delegation to the European Union (E.U.) Nguyen Van Thao on April 8 at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense.
Gen. Chien highly appreciated the attention and close coordination of the Ambassador, the Vietnamese Embassy in Belgium and the Vietnam’s Delegation to the E.U. in recent times, contributing to comprehensively implementing international integration and defense diplomacy affairs.

Ambassador Thao said that the E.U. is willing to expand its relations with regional countries, including Vietnam. The diplomat assessed that the relationship between Vietnam and the E.U. have developed flourishingly across all fields. He added that in terms of defense, the E.U. wants to foster its ties with Vietnam, with a focus on defense industry and war legacy relief.
At the meeting, Gen. Chien underlined that on the basis of the Party and State’s orientations on developing Vietnam-the E.U. relations, defense cooperation will be strengthened. Accordingly, the agreement on establishing a framework for Vietnam’s participation in the E.U.’s crisis management operations (FPA) should be effectively realized. In addition, the two sides should regularly maintain defense, security dialogue mechanisms while promoting personnel training, cooperation in U.N. peacekeeping operations, settlement of war consequences, and defense industry, among others.

The defense leader hoped that Ambassador Thao, the Vietnamese Embassy in Belgium and the Vietnam’s Delegation to the E.U. continue to cooperate with the Ministry of National Defense and create conditions for Vietnam’s Defense Attaché Office in Belgium and the E.U. to complete its assigned missions.
