Highlighting the fine traditional friendship between Vietnam and Belarus, Gen. Thang expressed pleasure that the two countries upgraded bilateral relations to a strategic partnership during the state visit to Belarus by Party General Secretary To Lam in May 2025. During the visit, the two sides signed the regulation on the Vietnam - Belarus bilateral working group on defense cooperation, providing a foundation for implementing a new cooperation mechanism and promoting bilateral defense ties.

The Vietnamese defense leader noted that in recent years bilateral defense cooperation has been implemented effectively, in line with the needs and capabilities of both sides, and has achieved positive results in many areas, including delegation exchanges, particularly at high level ones, service-to-service cooperation, political and ideological education, information and communications, military history, training, military science, and military medicine.

For his part, Major General Ravenko Valery affirmed that Belarus attaches importance to cooperation with Vietnam. He briefed the host on the results of the first meeting of the Vietnam - Belarus bilateral working group on defense cooperation between the Department of Foreign Relations under the Vietnamese MND and the Department of International Military Cooperation under the Belarusian Ministry of Defense.

Speaking highly of the cooperation outcomes in 2025, the guest expressed his hope that the two sides will continue close coordination, further promote effective bilateral defense cooperation.

Welcoming the results of the meeting, Gen. Thang suggested the two sides continue effectively implementing the annual defense cooperation plan, focusing on increasing the exchange of delegations at all levels; promoting experience sharing to strengthen trust, mutual understanding and cooperation effectiveness; enhancing cooperation in training, military medicine, military sports, military science, military history, and U.N. peacekeeping. The two sides should also continue supporting and participating in international multilateral activities hosted by each side, thereby further strengthening bilateral defense ties in line with the traditional friendship and strategic partnership between the two countries.

Gen. Thang invited leaders of the Belarusian Ministry of Defense, defense industry agencies and defense enterprises to attend the Vietnam Defense Expo 2026.
