Chinese naval ships start friendship visit to Ho Chi Minh City
PANO - On the morning of July 5, at Lotus Port, Ho Chi Minh City, Task Group 83 of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) comprising training vessel Qi Jiguang (Hull 83) and the landing vessel Kunlun Shan (Hull 998) arrived in Ho Chi Minh City for a friendship visit.
Senior Captain Pham Tien Dung, Deputy Chief of Staff of Naval Region 2 of Vietnam, presided over the welcoming ceremony.
Attending the event were representatives from the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the Coast Guard Region 3 Command, the Ho Chi Minh City Command and its affiliate Border Guard Command, the Department of Foreign Relations under the Ministry of National Defense, and the Embassy of China in Vietnam.

As part of the visit, the Task Group command delegation, led by Senior Captain Xu Jianguo and Senior Captain Liu Zhanfeng, Commanders of PLAN Task Group 83, will offer flowers in tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at the Ho Chi Minh Monument Park. The delegation will also pay courtesy calls on leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the Military Region 7 Command, and the Naval Region 2 Command, as well as visit several historical sites and cultural landmarks in the city.
Chinese officers and sailors will also participate in friendly sports exchanges with their peers from Brigade 125 of Naval Region 2 Command.

The visit by PLAN Task Group 83 aims to implement the common perceptions reached by the senior leaders of the two parties, the two states, and the two militaries on continuing to promote increasingly substantive defense cooperation, strengthening mutual trust and understanding between the two navies and militaries, thereby further deepening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and advancing the building of a Vietnam - China Community with a shared future carrying strategic significance.
