At the ceremony, the Vietnamese representatives handed over two sets of remains to the U.S. side. The remains were found as a result of the 150th joint search from February to April 2023 in Nghe An and Quang Binh provinces.

The remains, examined by Vietnamese and U.S. forensic specialists in Da Nang city, were found that they might belong to U.S. servicemen missing in action in Vietnam and will be transferred to Hawaii for further verification.

The joint humanitarian searches for U.S. servicemen who went missing in the war in Vietnam have been implemented by the two governments since the late 1980s.

It has become one of the cooperation pillars in settling the war legacy between the two countries. So far, 732 U.S. servicemen missing in action have been identified.
