World youth festival features conference on Vietnam

The Vietnamese delegation to the 17th World Festival of Youth and Students held a ‘Vietnam Day’ and a conference on December 18 to introduce the role of the Vietnamese youth in building and defending their socialist nation.
These events took place in Pretoria, South Africa, as one of the main activities of the 17th World Festival of Youth and Students.
Addressing the conference, Tran Dac Loi, Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, highlighted the significant role of young people in Vietnam’s struggle for national independence and construction. He also spoke about Vietnam’s foreign policy to befriend all countries in the world.
Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth League Phan Van Mai provided an overview of the 80-year history of the organization, whose many members sacrificed their own lives for national liberation and development.
At the conference, many delegates from other countries such as Cuba, India, Bangladesh and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, expressed their admiration at the courageous struggle of the Vietnamese people under the leadership of President Ho Chi Minh. They also expressed their wish to strengthen solidarity and mutual understanding between Vietnamese youth and their counterparts from Asia, Africa, Latin America, etc., in the name of peace, friendship and developmental cooperation.
During the festival, the Vietnamese delegation held cultural exchanges, sports competitions and art performances. In addition, they took active part in conferences in support of youth from Africa and participated in such events as Asia Day and Europe Day.
