Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet said the report was approved by the Prime Minister on March 22 for publication and to be sent to the UNHCR. The report has shown Vietnam’s responsibility, transparency and seriousness towards the UPR Mechanism in particular and in honoring its international commitments on ensuring human rights in general.

Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet said the UPR Third Cycle Voluntary Mid-term Report was approved by the prime minister on March 23, 2022 to submit to UNHRC. 

Also at the event, the official said that Vietnam is running for a seat at the UNHCR in the 2023-2025 tenure, adding that Vietnam is willing to work with member states and stakeholders to uphold the principles of the U.N. Charter and international law, and strengthen the effectiveness and efficiency of the UNHCR through dialogue, cooperation and mutual respect.

In her speech, Acting U.N. Resident Coordinator in Vietnam Rana Flowers applauded Vietnam’s commitment and efforts in promoting and protecting human rights, including implementing the UPR third cycle recommendations, building the above-mentioned mid-term report, and announcing commitments for the run to the UNHCR.

Meanwhile, she pledged that the U.N.’s organs will stand side by side with Vietnam to promote and protect human rights, promote principles of international law, and realize sustainable development goals, leaving no one behind.
