The fourth ASEAN Law Forum on Mutual Judicial Assistance in Civil and Commercial Matters was held in Hanoi on April 8 with the participation of more than 40 representatives from ASEAN nations and experts from the Hague Conference on Private International Law, China and Australia.
Addressing the forum, Vietnamese Justice Minister Ha Hung Cuong suggested the forum use collective determination and intelligence to consider the most suitable direction, either joining the Hague Conventions or building ASEAN members’ own legal tools.
Participants focused their discussions on multilateral cooperation in international judicial assistance, law enforcement and mutual cooperation in civil and commercial matters within ASEAN, as well as the Hague Conventions matters.
The Ministry of Justice hosted the forum in response to the country’s initiative at the sixth ASEAN Law Ministers Meeting (ALAWMM) held in Hanoi in 2005.
Through the forum, the ministry expects to gather and exchange ideas on judicial assistance in civil and commercial matters while compiling the nation’s initiative for the next ALAWMM.
