Ambassador Dr. Nguyen Hong Thao |
The world community lauded Vietnam’s policy of respecting international law in international relations, both bilaterally and multilaterally, regionally and internationally, she said.
Vietnam’s principle of peacefully settling all disputes based on international law and strictly implementing international commitments has also been lauded, stated the diplomat.
Ambassador Thao’s success is also a result of ceaseless efforts during the past year of the Foreign Ministry as well as representative offices of Vietnam abroad, including the Vietnam Mission to the UN in assisting the diplomat in running for the position.
Ambassador Nga said that Thao’s election to the ILC for the 2017-2021 period is significant as international law is proving important. Amidst rapid changes in the world with many complicated issues and challenges in peace, security, development and human right, the international legal system should be completed to meet the requirements of new situations.
She also expressed her belief that with his experience and knowledge as a lawyer and a diplomat, Ambassador Thao will represent Vietnam and developing countries to make a positive contribution to the ILC.
