A discussion of five and a half decades of solidarity and cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba was held in Hanoi on September 10 on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic ties.

The event, held by the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association, hosted Santiago Perez Castellanos – Head of the Department on Agriculture and Food of the Communist Party of Cuba, Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Herminio Lopez Diaz and representatives of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples.

On December 2, 1960, the Cuban and Vietnamese Governments set up a diplomatic relationship, opening a new chapter for the friendship between the two countries.

At the event, participants said such special relations between the two Parties, Governments and peoples are rare in the contemporary world. Vietnam and Cuba have stood side-by-side during their past struggles for independence and freedom as well as current national development and protection efforts.

Bilateral cooperation is being expanded to numerous fields such as agriculture, industry, construction, trade, investment, culture, education, science and technology, they noted, adding that the advancement of their ties contributes to the maintenance of socialism in each country.

Vietnamese and Cuban delegates described the consistent solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and mutual trust between the nations and peoples as a precious shared asset, believing that future generations would continue treasuring the solidarity and friendship and actively dedicating themselves to each country’s growth and protection along with peace, stability and development in the region and the world.

Also on September 10, the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association of HCM City launched a poster-drawing competition on the two countries’ amity on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.
