A group of volunteers, 100 Americans and 40 Vietnamese, working for Catalyst Foundation is taking part in a programme named “Humanitarian journey 2008” from March 21 to April 1.
Catalyst Foundation is a non-governmental and non-profitable organisation established in 1999 in the US. In the “Humanitarian journey 2008”, volunteers will take part in various charitable activities such as giving presents, rice, bicycles and free health check-up to the poor as well as constructing and repairing houses for them in Dong Thap, Kien Giang provinces and Ho Chi Minh City.
Ms Caroline Ticarro Parker, director of Catalyst Foundation, said that some American volunteers had adopted Vietnamese children. They expect their children to learn and promote Vietnamese culture and traditions in the future.
As part of the programme, Catalyst Foundation will organise a two-day camp festival for 300 children from Dong Thap, Kien Giang and Ho Chi Minh City in Long Hai.
According to Catalyst Foundation’s director in Vietnam, Mr Nguyen Bao, it will cost about US$ 150,000 for “Humanitarian journey 2008”.
