Speaking at the event, French Ambassador to Vietnam Bertrand Lortholary emphasized that France and Vietnam share a common and unique heritage in Asia, which have been fostered on the basis of the history of the 150 years of interactions between the two countries.

With the signing of the Paris Peace Accords on ending the war in Vietnam on January 27, 1973, and the country’s reunification two years later, Vietnam turned over a new leaf of history. This was the time when France and Vietnam decided to establish diplomatic ties to open up a new chapter in the bilateral relations history.

The French diplomat added that 45 years later, Vietnam and France held a wide range of activities in celebration of the 45th anniversary of the two countries’ establishment of diplomatic ties in January 2018. For the first time in the bilateral relations history, Vietnam and France had several high-level delegation exchange visits in the same year, including the visits of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam to France in March and the French Prime Minister to Vietnam.

The Ambassador believed that the two countries would continue to promote relations in all fields, ranging from politics, defense, trade-investment, to education and training.
