PANO - The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and Google in Asia Pacific (Google APAC) held a workshop themed “Tapping Vast Digital Economic Potential: Are Vietnamese small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) ready?” on November 2 in HCM city.

The workshop aims to support Vietnamese SMEs in applying the potential of digital technology to improving their competitiveness in the coming time.

Overview of the workshop

Currently, Vietnam stands at the fifth place in Asia-Pacific in the number of internet users, with 52 million subscribers. According to a report of head of VCCI’s Legal Department Dau Anh Tuan, in 2015, up to 95 percent of Vietnamese businesses used the internet, but nearly 60 percent of them faced difficulties in applying and effectively using information technology for their business and production.

Addressing the event, participants held that the wave of digital technology is strongly impacting all lines of businesses. Hence, it is necessary for all SMEs to actively study, access, and apply these technological advances to their operations.

Moreover, the government and private sector also need to improve the quality of reforming public administration and establish a comprehensive and efficient technology infrastructure.
