Some West African countries, such as the Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Senegal, Togo, Guinea and Ghana, want to import rice from Vietnam, according to the African Market Department under the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Figures from the General Department of Customs showed that Vietnam exported 98,000 tonnes of rice, worth US$122.4 million, to Ivory Coast, 2,600 tonnes costing US$1.2 million to Nigeria, and nearly 19,000 tonnes, worth US$59.7 million, to Senegal.
In particular, some African countries exported Vietnam’s rice to a third country for commercial purposes.
The high demand of African countries proves the quality of Vietnam’s agricultural product, however, Vietnamese rice producers should learn more about the market.
