These days, a large number of sweet potatoes, one of the special agricultural products of the Binh Tan district in Vinh Long province, are being exported to the Chinese market.
According to Vo Van Theo, Director of the district’s Agriculture and Rural Development Department, local growers have exported more potatoes to China thanks to this year’s good harvest at around 200 tonnes everyday.
Otherwise, they are sold directly to Chinese businessmen who travel to the area to buy the product, themselves. Each kilogram of sweet potatoes costs around 7,000 VND.
By applying advanced farming technology, local farmers in the Binh Tan district can produce up to 30 tonnes of sweet potatoes per hectare, earning around 25 million VND. This year, around 150,000 tonnes of potatoes were produced in the district.
