He said the ITUC wants to help Vietnam bolster relations with Global Unions and other organizations.

The official hailed Vietnam for relaxing its regulations to conform to international standards on the freedom of association organization before the country engaged in the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement.

The VGCL President thanked Noriyuki Suzuki for his support to the VGCL in past years.

He said though Vietnam is not an official member of the ITUC, the country has four trade unions linked with Global Unions and three more have applied for membership.

Aware of future challenges, the VGCL is reforming its organization structure and activities to protect workers.

The VGCL hopes to receive more support from the ITUC to overcome challenges and optimize development opportunities, he said, adding that the confederation wishes to increase trade union membership, improve capacity and competitiveness of trade unionists.
