Hai Phong to strive to develop its fisheries and tourism sectors
PANO – The Hai Phong municipal People’s Committee held a meeting on March 31 to mark 60 years since President Ho Chi Minh visited Cat Ba fishing village and the 60th foundation day of the fisheries sector, and open Cat Ba tourism year 2019.
At the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Quoc Doanh read Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong’s letter highlighting the achievements of fishermen and businesses operating in the sector in the past 60 years.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Van Tung affirmed the significance of President Ho Chi Minh’s visit to the village, considering it as a great encouragement for people of the city to work and firmly protect the sacred national sovereignty.

Over the past time, the coastal city has promoted its glorious tradition to obtain significant economic achievements, contributing to improve locals’ material and spiritual lives. Thanks to utmost efforts, the city was listed among ten attractive destinations to domestic and foreign investors. Last year, the city’s tourism sector obtained significant results with 8 million tourist arrivals and caught around 95,000 tons of seafood.
The city’s chairman said that to effectively realize the Politburo’s resolution No.45 on building and developing the city by 2030 with a vision to 2045, the city has focused on improving its infrastructure and fishing logistics services while protecting national defense-security and national sovereignty. Accordingly, Hai Phong has targeted to turn Bach Long Vi and Cat Ba islands and Thuy Nguyen district into three major fishing centers.
Earlier, the municipal People’s Committee kicked off various activities to develop its fisheries and tourism sectors.
