Covering an area of nearly 6ha, the Zen monastery will consists of 18 main items, including a three-door gate, a bell tower, a multi-storey tower, a hall and more.

The work will cost over VND 100 billion, mostly donated by Buddhist followers and benefactors.

The Truc Lam Zen monastery is expected to be completed in late 2019.

In his speech, Vice Chairman of the Soc Trang Provincial People’s Committee Ngo Hung emphasized that the ground-breaking ceremony for the monastery took place on the 709th anniversary of the attainment of Nirvana of King-Monk Tran Nhan Tong, the founder of the Vietnamese Zen Buddhism.

The provincial official added that the Truc Lam Zen monastery is a cultural and spiritual space for Buddhist followers and will be a highlight among the local spiritual tourist attractions to further promote the provincial tourism development.
