The central province of Nghe An is implementing a series of measures to preserve and develop the culture of the Thai ethnic minority group in 10 out of 19 mountainous districts in the province.

The move has been made following the success in building a cultural village of Thai ethic minority people in Hoa Tien hamlet in Quynh Chau district.

The province plans to build an ethnology museum with the aim of preserving and showcasing cultural features of the Thai ethnic minority group. It will popularise Thai language in schools where Thai ethnic minority pupils are studying and organize Thai folksong composition contests.

With the aim of preserving the culture, Nghe An strictly bans the smuggling of tangible cultural items of Thai ethnic minority people, such as costumes, musical instruments and houses on stilts.
