In the early spring of 1789, Nguyen Hue, who was later proclaimed King Quang Trung, led his guerrillas from Hue imperial palace to Hanoi, which was then occupied by the Chinese Qing army.
He launched a surprise attack and defeated more than 20,000 Qing troops during a battle on the fifth day of the Lunar New Year.
Addressing the event, President of the municipal chapter of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Vo Thi Dung said the victory showed the nation’s indomitable will and solidity and went down in national history as an epic of the struggle for national independence, which has continued ever since.
She also called upon local people, officials, and soldiers to exert efforts to develop their home into a civilised city.
The festival, including various art performances in memory of Nguyen Hue and Tay Son soldiers, aimed to inspire patriotism and national pride among young generations.
