Continuing its previous successes, this year contest gathered more participants and had even higher value prizes, said a representative of the People's Army Newspaper.

At the event, the organizing board also honored outstanding examples, who were characters in the entries of the writing contest. They are truly typical examples in emulation movements because they have voluntarily devoted themselves to the community and supported disadvantaged people, contributing to beautifying the virtues and images of Vietnamese people in modern times.

Among the honored was Ngo Van Leo (from Khue Trung ward, Cam Le district, Da Nang City), the man who has saved nearly 200 people from drowning in Cam Le River over the past 40 years. The honored also included three female teachers, who have bravely overcome their own personal difficulties and fulfilled their assigned missions, contributing to educating youngsters near Lung Cung mountain peak in Nam Co commune, Mu Cang Chai district, Yen Bai province. Their sacrifices were honestly reflected in the articles of Major Dang Thu Ha, reporter for PAN, who was also the winner of the first prize in the competition.

Ha shared that she traveled nearly 200 kilometers from Hanoi to Lung Cu to directly witness the harsh and difficult lives of teachers and students there. She was touched by the courage, sheer determination and will of these teachers and then became determined to write about them.

In addition to the first prize, the organizing panel also handed over two second, three third and fifteen consolation prizes to authors.
