At the reception for the Vietnamese general, the Lao leader highly appreciated the visit of Gen. Cuong and the Vietnamese high-ranking military delegation. He said that he always follows the cooperation between the two militaries.

Given the close ties between the two militaries like those of brothers, and their side-by-side relations in the national construction and protection cause of each country, Party General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith stressed that in the special solidarity ties between Vietnam and Laos, the solidarity between the two militaries is special. 

Gen. Cuong emphasized that the Party, State, military and people of Vietnam always remember the great support from the Lao counterparts for them during the past national struggle for independence and the present national construction and defense.

Recalling great credits that Vietnam has dedicated to Laos, including Vietnamese military troops’ bones and blood, the Lao leader believed that the guest’s visit will help boost the practical and effective implementation of the cooperation contents and programs between the two general staffs and militaries.

For his part, Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong underlined that in any circumstances, Vietnam always preserves and promotes the special and faithful relations between Vietnam and Laos. He believed that under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, Lao people will continue overcoming all difficulties and challenges, gain greater achievements in the renovation cause, and succeed in building country of peace, independence, democracy, unity, and prosperity.

Earlier the same day, Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Tan Cuong had a meeting with Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense General Chansamone Chanyalath.

At the meeting, General Chansamone Chanyalath warmly welcomed the Vietnamese chief of the General Staff and his entourage, saying that their visit was important since the two countries are speeding up the realization of the targets in the resolutions of the 13th National Congress of the Vietnam Communist Party and the 11th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party.

The guest conveyed Vietnamese Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang’s regards to General Chansamone Chanyalath and other leaders of the Lao Ministry of National Defense.

Sending thanks to the guest for the good assessment and opinions about Laos and its military, Gen. Chansamone Chanyalath emphasized the support of Vietnam and its military to their Lao counterparts. He highlighted the military and defense ties in which the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense has given special priority to its Lao counterpart in all fields.

Through the guest, he conveyed his regards to Gen. Phan Van Giang and other leaders of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense. He also hoped that the two general staffs will further study and keep a close watch on situations to give recommendations on cooperation contents and fields to higher levels and coordinate to effectively actualize them.

Emphasizing the outcomes achieved by both general staffs, Gen. Cuong stressed that the two sides will keep their ties developing comprehensively, practically, and effectively, and discuss plans to realize key cooperation assigned by the two Ministries of National Defense. He hoped that the Government of Laos and the Lao leader will continue their support to Vietnamese enterprises, including military ones, to invest and do business in Laos.
