The event was part of activities to mark the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic ties, the 55th anniversary of the Vietnam-Laos diplomatic ties and the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.

Speaking at the event, Deputy-Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh stressed that the Vietnamese people always bear in mind the valuable supports of Cambodian and Lao women to the Vietnamese soldiers in the resistance war. In wartime, the Vietnamese female volunteers and medical staff have remained side by side with the Cambodian and Lao people.
Minh believed that through the seminar the delegates will suggest some effective measures in response to common challenges, making contribution to promoting gender equality and creating favorable conditions for women to contribute to the socio-economic development as well as the fulfillment of sustainable development goals.
The Chairwoman of the Vietnam Women’s Union Nguyen Thi Thu Ha said in implementing the signed cooperation agreements, the women’s unions of three countries have organized some exchanges and cooperation activities, contributing to people-to-people diplomacy and friendship and cooperation among three countries.
The three unions agreed to foster dissemination of information on the traditional friendship among the three countries for young generations, raise the efficiency of delegation exchange and information sharing and instruct women’s unions of border localities to promote exchanges and cooperation activities, so as to build a border of peace, stability and development.
During the event, the participants shared experiences in improving women’s empowerment, particularly in economic and political fields, preventing women and child trafficking, assisting women in coping with climate change, promoting tourism and international cooperation and educating younger generations about the development of the traditional friendship and collaboration among women of the three countries.
Earlier, a delegation of the Vietnam Women’s Union visited and held exchanges with its counterparts of the Cambodian and Lao Women’s Unions. They handed over scholarships to needy students, visited and presented gifts to Vietnamese heroic mothers and families of those who had supported the Vietnamese volunteers and needy women.
