Speaking at a ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Indonesia (December 30, 1955 - 2025) on December 19, Vinh noted that bilateral ties have been nurtured by generations of leaders and peoples of the two countries across different historical periods and have continued to grow. Vietnam officially became Indonesia’s first comprehensive strategic partner in ASEAN in March 2025.

The strong political relationship provides a solid foundation for the two sides to further expand cooperation in the economy, culture and tourism. Vietnam and Indonesia also regularly coordinate and support each other at regional and international forums. These important milestones not only reflect the growing level of political trust but also create strong momentum for bilateral relations to enter a new phase of deeper, more substantive and effective development.

Vinh said Indonesia is currently one of the city’s important partners in trade, investment, culture and tourism. HCM City highly values the positive contributions of the Indonesian Consulate General and the Indonesian community in the city. He expressed confidence that the cooperative relationship between the two sides will continue to be strengthened and develop robustly in the coming time, contributing to the deeper and more comprehensive development of the Vietnam - Indonesia comprehensive strategic partnership for peace, stability and shared prosperity.

Carolina Tinangon, Consul General of Indonesia in HCM City, said leaders of the two countries have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in key areas such as politics, economy, education, science and technology, and people-to-people exchanges, while setting a target for bilateral trade to reach 18 billion USD by 2028.

According to her, Indonesia and Vietnam have demonstrated strong determination to promote bilateral cooperation in politics, economy, trade and investment, and especially to further foster people-to-people exchanges through cooperation in tourism, education and culture. In the coming period, Indonesia hopes to step up economic and trade cooperation with Vietnam, including HCM City, in priority areas such as food security, fisheries, the digital economy, the green economy and the halal industry.
