PANO - An exhibition of photos and documentaries on the ASEAN Community was held on October 27 in Phu Tho province by the Ministry of Information and Communications, in collaboration with the provincial People’s Committee.

On display are over 300 photos and nearly 60 documentaries which were the finalists of the international photo and documentary contest on the ASEAN Community in 2010. The exhibition featured the beauty of landscapes and people, traditional cultures, ethnic groups as well as environmental protection and climate change mitigation in the region.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Hoang Vinh Bao said the exhibition aims to introduce the achievements of the ASEAN countries in socio-economy, culture, external relations and ASEAN's position on the international arena.

The three-day event is also an appeal to Vietnamese people to join efforts with other ASEAN nations to build an ASEAN community of peace, stability and development; and enhance their awareness of development of the community, he added.

The exhibition will help locals learn more about the region’s landscapes, cultures, people and life styles; and raise their responsibility for protecting the environment and fighting climate change. It also introduces and promotes images of the province’s people and culture as well as economic and tourism potential to Vietnamese and regional people.

After the exhibition, the Ministry will present all exhibits to the provincial People’s Committee to continue the dissemination and promotion of the ASEAN Community to people in other localities of the province.
