ASEAN promotes tourism development strategy
PANO - The ASEAN National Tourism Organizations convened their 46th meeting on July 24 at the Flamingo Dai Lai tourist site in Vinh Phuc province.
According to the ASEAN tourism development strategy with vision to 2025, ASEAN plans to become a high quality tourist destination, provide tourists with diverse and unique experiences, develop sustainable tourism in a responsible, comprehensive and balanced manner, in order to contribute to socio-economic development in the region.
Addressing the session, Head of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration Nguyen Van Tuan said that tourism is among ASEAN’s important cooperation fields. Last year, ASEAN welcomed 113 million international visitors, an increase of 7 per cent against the previous year.
Tuan also emphasized that ASEAN cooperation plays a vital role in the development of Vietnam’s tourism industry. ASEAN tourists account for about 15 per cent of international tourists to Vietnam. Especially, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore are among ten countries with a high number of tourists to Vietnam and are important gateways for international tourists to visit Vietnam.
At the meeting, orientations were mapped out, including the enhancement of competitiveness of ASEAN tourism as a common destination and sustainable and comprehensive tourism development as well as development of tourism-related workers.
Also at the meeting, Vietnam informed the participants of its host of ASEAN Tourism Forum in January 2019 in Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province.
