New map presented to Hoang Sa island district
PANO – President of the Institute for Vietnamese Culture & Education (IVCE), Tran Thang, has presented the Partie de la Cochichine map to the Hoang Sa island district People’s Committee on January 10.

The map, drawn by Philippe Vandermaelen, the founder of the Royal Belgium Society of Geography, demonstrates Vietnam’s coastline stretching from the 12
th parallel (in the area of Khanh Hoa province) to the 16
th parallel (Quang Nam province now); and Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago between the 14
th and 17
th latitudes, and from the 109
th to 113
th longitudes.
Vo Ngoc Dong, Chairman of the Hoang Sa island district People’s Committee thanked Mr. Tran Thang for the meaningful gift, saying that the map and other things, collected by Thang, will enrich the store of documents and objects confirming Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa archipelago, he added.
