Vo Ngoc Dong, Chairman of the Hoang Sa island district People’s Committee received the map from Mr. Tran Thang
The map, drawn by Philippe Vandermaelen, the founder of the Royal Belgium Society of Geography, demonstrates Vietnam’s coastline stretching from the 12th parallel (in the area of Khanh Hoa province) to the 16th parallel (Quang Nam province now); and Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago between the 14th and 17th latitudes, and from the 109th to 113th longitudes.

Vo Ngoc Dong, Chairman of the Hoang Sa island district People’s Committee thanked Mr. Tran Thang for the meaningful gift, saying that the map and other things, collected by Thang, will enrich the store of documents and objects confirming Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa archipelago, he added.
