Ceremony commemorates fallen soldiers in Gac Ma battle
The Liaison Board of Truong Sa Soldiers for the 1984 – 1988 period held a ceremony in the Central city of Da Nang on March 14 to commemorate the Vietnam People’s Navy soldiers who fell down on Gac Ma Island (Johnson Reef), part of Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago, in 1988.
During the ceremony, held on the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the battle, the board members offered incense and released colored lanterns in commemoration of the 64 officers and soldiers who sacrificed themselves safeguarding Gac Ma Island.
They recalled the glorious fight and expressed profound gratitude to the soldiers who died for the nation’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, affirming that the sacrifice is always a bright example for later generations.
