Organized by the Association of the Indonesian Tours and Travel Agencies (ASTINDO), the ASTINDO 2026 fair brings together airlines, travel companies and tourism partners from Indonesia and abroad. Addressing the opening ceremony, ASTINDO Chairwoman Pauline Suharno said Indonesia’s tourism industry is adapting to rapid changes in purchasing power, operating costs and tourist behavior. With digital platforms and artificial intelligence (AI) playing an increasingly important role in how travelers search for, select and book tourism services, travel businesses need to innovate to better meet customer demand.

Speaking to the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Jakarta, Suharno said Viet Nam is considered one of the attractive destinations for Indonesian travelers and is currently among their top five preferred destinations.

She attributed the appeal to an expanding air network, with numerous direct flights to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as competitive travel costs.

At ASTINDO 2026, national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines is showcasing its products and services and promoting Vietnamese destinations to Indonesian consumers.

Tran Tuan Nghia, Vietnam Airlines' chief representative in Indonesia, said the carrier hopes to expand its customer and partner networks through the fair while strengthening its brand presence in the Indonesian market.

The airline is also seeking new members for its Lotusmiles frequent-flyer program, potential agents and partners that could become new sales channels, and engaging visitors through interactive activities, gifts and lucky draws.

Alongside flights connecting Indonesia and Viet Nam, Vietnam Airlines is also promoting its international flight network, offering Indonesian travelers more options and helping strengthen tourism links between the two markets.

The growing appeal of Viet Nam is also reflected in tour products offered by Indonesian travel companies at the fair. Several agencies have developed ready-made itineraries to Viet Nam, with popular routes including Da Nang-Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh City-Phu Quoc and Hanoi-Sa Pa-Ha Long.

Mitchel Hutomo, Marketing and Sales Director of Cruise MABI, an official representative in Indonesia for several international cruise lines, said Da Nang and Phu Quoc are attracting considerable interest from Indonesian customers.

The company is also seeking Vietnamese partners to develop premium sea-based tourism products.

The strong presence of Viet Nam in the product portfolios of Indonesian travel companies highlights the growing potential of the Indonesian market for Vietnamese tourism, amid expanding air connectivity and rising demand among Indonesians for international travel experiences.
