The northern province of Hai Duong on April 27 launched a tour of Chu Dau ancient pottery village in Thai Tan commune, Nam Sach district.

This is one of the locality’s two major events in response to the Red River Delta-Hai Phong National Tourism Year 2013.

The programme will cover a wide range of activities, including a display of ancient and modern pottery collections, a ceremony to honour skilled artisans, a fact-finding tour of the Chu Dau ceramic joint stock company – the central player in promoting the Chu Dau pottery trademark to domestic and international markets.

There will also be a field trip to the village and archaeological relic sites in Nam Sach district and a contest on the history of Chu Dau pottery.

Chu Dau pottery became well known at the end of the 14th century, and reached its peak during the 15th and 16th centuries. Chu Dau ceramics not only inherited the quintessence of pottery making during the Ly-Tran dynasties, but developed into a form of pottery that featured beautiful patterns and bright enamel.

In 1992, the Chu Dau archaeological site was recognised as a national relic site.
