HCM City greets first tourists in 2019
PANO - The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism and other relevant organizations held a ceremony on January 1 to welcome the first foreign and domestic visitors to the city in 2019, at Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
The first six international visitors were on Flight VN30 of the national flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines, departing from the German city of Frankfurt while the first six local tourists were on Flight VJ633 of the low-cost airline, Vietjet Air, from Da Nang city.
At the ceremony, the lucky holidaymakers enjoyed special artistic performances and received gifts from the organization panel, including free fact-finding tours in the city.

In her remarks, Deputy Director of the HCM City Department of Tourism Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa said that the ceremony showed the city’s hospitality.
In 2018, HCM City received nearly 36.5 million visitors, including 7.5 million foreigners, a year-on-year increase of 17.38 per cent. The local tourism sector earned a turnover of VND 140 trillion, a yearly rise of 21.55 per cent.
This year, the southern hub aims to welcome 8.5 million foreign tourists and 32.77 million domestic ones to earn a turnover of VND 150 trillion.
