According to Duong, Vietnam has had more than 40 provinces and cities with no recorded malaria case.

He added that in 2016, Vietnam was among 44 countries with less than 10,000 malaria cases a year.

So far, Vietnam has changed approaches from malaria control to malaria elimination with the goal of eliminating malaria by 2030.

At the workshop, Head of WHO’s Representative office in Vietnam Kidong Park highlighted Vietnam’s big successes in the fight against malaria over the past decade. He stressed that the Vietnam’s malaria elimination target by 2030 is now reachable thanks to the Government’s and partners’ strong commitment to mobilizing all resources and specifying new measures to malaria elimination.
