Vietnam, Austria boost cooperation in smart agriculture
The training and research strengths of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU), which are grounded in technology and innovation, align well with Vietnam’s priorities in advancing a circular, multi-valued, sustainable, and smart agricultural sector based on science, technology, and digital transformation, Vietnamese Ambassador to Austria Vu Le Thai Hoang has said.
During his visit to BOKU on May 14, the ambassador highlighted that promoting smart and sustainable agriculture is a top priority within Vietnam’s strategy for sustainable agricultural and rural development for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050. This goal is also closely linked to Resolution No. 57 on breakthroughs in development of science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, he said.

Hoang highly valued the university’s accomplishments over its more than 150-year history and its contribution to educational and scientific cooperation between Vietnam and Austria over the past 25 years.
BOKU's leaders affirmed their commitment to deepening and enhancing cooperation with Vietnamese partners through more substantive and effective support.
The university plans to increase its promotion activities, offer more scholarships, and recruit additional Vietnamese students for programs in both German and English. It also expressed interest in expanding partnerships in the Mekong Delta region to support training and research in water resource management, climate change mitigation, and agricultural and aquacultural production.
BOKU has maintained a close and effective partnership with Vietnam since 2000. Its Vietnamese partners include Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Vietnam National University of Agriculture, and various other research and training institutions. Many Vietnamese students and lecturers have studied and conducted research at BOKU over the past years.
