Within the framework of the event, Deputy Consul General of the United Kingdom in Ho Chi Minh City Sam Wood and the Hoi An Reading Ambassadors Group read books for children to raise their awareness of environmental protection. Visitors to Hoi An will also have a chance to discuss the harmful impacts of plastic waste on the ocean and the maritime creatures, as well as giving solutions to minimize the usage of plastic products and protect the environment.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Sam Wood said that Hoi An is one among the cities severely affected by climate change. The program aims to raise the community’s awareness of environmental protection and share the U.K.’s experience in coping with climate change.

The U.K. pledged to accompany Vietnam in implementing sustainable development goals (SDGs). Apart from joint projects on reducing climate change’s impacts and developing renewable energy, the U.K. is willing to help Vietnam develop human resources by giving Chevening scholarships to students in various fields, including the environment and SDGs, he added.
