The Vietnam Red Cross Society assisting flood victims

The downpour caused landslides and inundated numerous roads and agricultural land in the provinces of Yen Bai, Son La, Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An.

In order to support disaster-hit people, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society provided relief, worth VND 950 million in total, including VND 900 million in cash, basic necessities, Aquatabs water purification tablets, and 60 canvas sheets to households in the most-affected areas of Thanh Hoa, Son La, Yen Bai, Hoa Binh and Nghe An provinces.

* The Ministry of National Defense directed relevant units to deploy over 14,000 troops and 303 vehicles to help flood victims. The local armed forces evacuated 11,534 households, saved 10 people isolated by the flooding, reinforced 1,200m of local dykes, transported 17 tons of rice, to name but a few.

On October 12, the Military Region 2 Command instructed Division 316, Engineer Brigade 543 and the provincial Military Commands of Son La, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, and Dien Bien to mobilize 3,500 troops and hundreds of vehicles to help evacuate people to safe places and overcome the serious effects and aftermaths of these devastating floods.

* Meanwhile, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee on October 12 also decided to allocate VND 2 billion (USD 88,000) to flood-affected people in the provinces of Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Son La, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh. The funds will be sent to households that lost family members, with injured people, or had their houses damaged in floods.
