VFF leader presents assistance to flood victims in Lao Cai
President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Tran Thanh Man presented VND 200 million (USD 8,800) to aid Lao Cai’s flood relief efforts at a working session in the mountainous province on September 9.
According to Vice President of the provincial VFF chapter Ban Thanh Thao, to date this year, flash floods and land erosion have claimed the lives of five people and left one missing. 1,069 houses have been damaged, and 816 hectares of rice and 1,580 hectares of other food crops have been destroyed. The total damage is estimated to cost nearly VND 100 billion (USD 4.4 million).

The province has mobilized joint efforts to overcome the consequences caused by the natural disasters at all levels, providing support for affected households in Bac Ha, Bat Xat, Bao Yen, Bao Thang and Van Ban districts.
As of September 6, the chapter has received over VND 700 million (USD 30,800) donated by agencies, individuals to help affected locals.
Man asked the provincial committee to continue monitoring the damages caused by floods and erosions and the distribution of relief, thus ensuring no person is left hungry and no child is prevented from going to school due to floods.
He suggested the province make long-term planning to ensure safety for residents, particularly in the highly vulnerable areas.
Construction of residential resettlement areas should be in line with the province’s overall planning, while ensuring production land, and infrastructure for people, Man added.
