Press awards for disaster prevention rescheduled to October
The ceremony for the first National Press Award on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control will be delayed until October due to the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control has said.
According to the committee, the winners will be announced in due course.
Themed “Mitigation of losses due to natural disasters - Proactive adaptation to climate change starting from the community,” the awards were jointly launched in October last year by the committee, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Vietnam Journalists’ Association, and the UN Development Program.
It aims to honor and reward collectives and individuals who make practical contributions to communications on disaster prevention and control, and raise a sense of responsibility among organizations and individuals in their work.
Organizers said they had received 939 entries from print newspapers, e-newspapers, radio, television and press photos which were published between January 1, 2019 and March 31, 2020.
The event was initially slated for May on the occasion of the National Week for Disaster Prevention and Control.
