Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has instructed the authorities in central Ha Tinh provinces to launch an emergency rescue for victims of a local mine collapse.

The accident, happening at the Ru Moc quarry in Thach Ban and Thach Dinh communes, Thach Ha District, on December 27, claimed seven lives and injured several others.

In his official letter dated December 28, the PM asked the Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee to personally guide the rescue of the injured and help families of the dead in holding burial services.

He also required relevant agencies to report on the accident’s reasons.

The Ministry of Construction was asked to coordinate with relevant ministries to draft a plan on tightening management over stone mining, including safety insurance for workers and equipment.

On December 28, the Viet Nam Fatherland Front cabled a message of condolences to the province’s authorities and families of the victims.

The organisation gave 2 million VND for each family of the dead and 1 million VND for each injured to help them overcome the aftermaths.
