The three provinces’ Red Cross Society and Women’s Union chapters had carefully selected household recipients from poor families, particularly families headed by women and elderly people.
Addressing the event, Country Director, UNDP Vietnam Akiko Fujii stressed that a house is the biggest asset of a family, so it is very important to build a safe house and the UNDP and the RoK Government have been supporting communities affected by the typhoon.
Up to now, over 5,500 houses have been built and repaired for households badly-hit by the typhoon in 2017 with the support of the RoK Government, the United Nations Emergency Assistance Fund (CERF), and the UNDP and partners.
The typhoon hit Vietnam on November 4, 2017, damaging more than 130,000 houses, of which over 3,500 were completely destroyed.
