According to a report from the provincial People’s Committee, total losses across the province are estimated at more than 5 trillion VND, the greatest in many years. The storm left two people dead and many injured; tens of thousands of houses had their roofs blown off or collapsed; water and electricity systems were disrupted; and transport routes were cut off.
Agricultural production also suffered heavy losses, with tens of thousands of hectares of crops damaged and thousands of livestock and poultry swept away. Fishermen were severely affected as many fishing vessels were damaged, preventing them from returning to sea in a short time.
According to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Gia Lai province, immediately after Typhoon Kalmaegi swept through and devastated the locality, donors nationwide joined together to support and assist the severely affected residents. To date, the province has received 89 billion VND from businesses and benefactors nationwide to help local people overcome the damage caused by Typhoon Kalmaegi.
Earlier, on November 13, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh came to Gia Lai to inspect the situation and chaired an online meeting on post-storm and flood recovery and production restoration in the localities from Ha Tinh to Dak Lak. The Government leader called on businesses and citizens to uphold the spirit of “help with whatever you can,” and support the central region in rebuilding tens of thousands of homes before the Lunar New Year.
