More than 2.7 million euros is the total sum the Italian Government has provided since 2003 for safe water projects in the 6 Vietnamese provinces of Ha Tinh, Son La, Bac Can, Quang Nam, Cao Bang and Lao Cai.
The Italian Government’s assistance programme aims to build and rebuild water industry infrastructure in the flood-hit provinces.
So far, the completed projects have greatly improved the quality of life for 152,000 people in the localities.
At a conference recently held in Da Nang to summarise the first phase of programme, representatives from the Vietnamese Finance Ministry said that they would discuss with the Italian Government about considerations for the implementation of the second phase.
The second phase of the programme is expected to be implemented in 7 central provinces and 13 other provinces in the Mekong Delta in 3 years.
According to first estimates, the second phase will cost about 3.35 million euros, and when it is finished it will benefit some 199,000 people in the areas.
