In the first three months this year, another 3,128 poor Khmer households in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang were connected to national electricity grid, raising the total number to 55,294, which currently accounts for 72.2 percent of all ethnic minority households in the province.
This means that more than 29,200 Khmer households still have no access to electricity.
The prime minister has recently approved a project to supply electricity for ethnic households with a total investment capital of VND 305 billion, 15 percent of which is sourced from the electricity industry, with the rest from the state. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2010.
