The MoT also aims to effectively realize the mid-term investment goals for 2016-2020, as well as the plan set for 2018, according to the official.

On behalf of the Government, the ministry will report the plan on using the standby capital of VND 15 trillion (USD 645 million) of the mid-term investment plan for 2016-2020, Duc said.

At the same time, the MoT will speed up the implementation of key projects such as Long Thanh International Airport, the expansion of Tan Son Nhat International Airport, the North-South Expressway, and North-South high-speed railway.

During the second half of this year, the MoT will speed up the implementation of key projects such as Long Thanh International Airport and the expansion of Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

Attention will be paid to construction site inspection, project quality, workplace safety, environmental protection, project progress, and capital disbursement, especially in key projects like the Da Nang-Quang Ngai highway, the second phase of the Phap Van-Cau Gie highway, and the Cat Linh-Ha Dong urban railway, Duc added.

Reviewing the ministry’s performance over the first six months of this year, Duc said the MoT completed feasibility study reports and is assessing dossiers of three sub-projects of the North-South Expressway.

The official said the ministry has signed a consultation contract to make a feasibility study report on the Long Thanh International Airport project.

The Government has assigned the ministry to ratify adjustments to the planning of Tan Son Nhat International Airport, he added.

Regarding transportation management, Duc said the ministry has employed solutions to improve the quality of services, noting that during the reviewed period, up to 659.95 million tons of cargo and more than 1.8 billion passengers were transported, up 9.7 percent and 10.4 percent year-on-year, respectively.

He did, however, point out the complex traffic situation, with serious road, waterway, and railway traffic accidents.

Transport Minister Nguyen Van The said the ministry has made efforts in speeding up the implementation of projects and become one of the ministries with the highest rate of disbursement.

However, he said, the disbursement rate of 43 percent still remains moderate compared to previous years.
